USHJA Congratulates Zone 5 Team on Gold Medal

And Dana Scott on Individual Victory in Randolph College/USEF Prix de States

October 22, 2012

Members of the Zone 5 team – Kalvin Dobbs paired with Winde, Abigail McArdle aboard Cosma 20, Lillie Ross with Pako, and Catherine Tyree riding Wetter captured the Team Championship of the $15,000 2012 Randolph College/USEF Prix de States held at the 67th Annual Pennsylvania National Horse Show on October 13.

To achieve gold, the team competed over a course based on a modified Nations Cup format. Riders traversed the Alan Wade-designed layout twice and were permitted one drop score for each round. Heading into the deciding round, it was the combined team from Zones 1 & 8 at the top with a mere 8-fault total, followed by Zone 2 with 9 faults, and Zone 5 sitting in the third spot with 12 penalties. Their determination to succeed coupled with their team bond proved to be the formula that worked – no additional faults were accumulated and when their anchor Abigail McArdle crossed the final timers, the Gold Medal was assured.

Zone 5 Jumper Committee Chair, Diane Carney, stated that the win was a result of “great teamwork and group effort” on the part of the kids and those who kept the team’s motivation high. USHJA congratulates the Zone 5 Team on this Championship and wishes them continued success.

Congratulations also going out to Dana Scott of Wilton, CT, who captured the gold medal riding KM Whatever RV in the $7,500 Randolph College/USEF National Junior Jumper Individual Championship. Dana bested a field of the top 17 competitors who had moved to the deciding round after two separate phases of jumping. Scott and KM Whatever RV made the course look easy by scoring a clear round. The talented pair did not have a single rail down throughout the four rounds of competition. Their only two faults were time faults picked up on the first evening of jumping.
